Word Power

The one and only time that I used word power outside of class was when there was the word that meant "someone with a beautiful butt".  using the word I asked people whether or not they thought they had beautiful butts.  They all got very confused and it was fun.

            I think that word power will lead me to a better vocabulary for writing and talking.  this will be helpful for my career and my life in general.  Sometimes I enjoy word power but most of thwe time it is confusing.  All the more reason to use the book and learn the words.

Shakespeare's Work

             The film, Much Ado About Nothing, was very confusing at first and was hard to understand.  But gradually over time it started to make sense.  The film actually had a simple plot of trying to make two people fall in love.  And the story of how two fell in love and one felt tricked.  The film was very enjoyable and I’m interested in encountering more of Shakespeare’s work.

            I’m slightly excited to read the work, Romeo and Juliet, by Shakespeare after watching the movie in class.  The diction and wording of old English may be hard to understand, but it won’t take to long to grow used to it in reading.  I’m glad that we are going to read it in class like we did for The Importance Of Being Earnest.  I hope to have small group discussions in class and some questions to answer that will go with these discussions.

Diary Write-up Magwitch

Dear Diary,

Magwitch here, I found that boy.  Pip is his name.  He was quite surprised to see me and even more surprised to hear that I was his benefactor.  And he locked me in a room like he had a problem with me.  He doesn't seem to understand that i had to work extremely hard 24/7 just so he could become a gentleman.

I am disappointed,  he does have a problem with me... he has refused to except my money.  He doesn't get it I want to see him succeed but instead he sees fit using the money on someone else!  His friend, Herbert, is using the money for his wedding and his business yet is unaware of pip's help.  Pip is a fool to not use his money for himself.

All my hard work, gone to waste for this boy.  Pip has failed to become a gentleman.  He has become poor, lost, yet he still refuses my money.  He thinks it is dirty, like I have received through swindling. never again will I help another soul.

Five Paragraph Essay Ideas

If I were to start my five paragraph essay now I would bring up the motifs Estella and Pip's benefactor.  The theme would be Pip's process of age and change, such as to express a point of maturity.  I also could write about Pip's expectations or his shame of Joe and his former "common" life.  unto upon this moment I would write with such exquisite detail of his life within the guidelines of the text Great Expectations, as to such clarity of his wishes and meanings that he believed to be part of.  Examples of such are his relationship with Estella, his partaking of being a gentleman, and his reality of his benefactor.  To short notice happened to be his convict that had scared him into to stealing.  That is what I would write about.

Half-Way through "Great Expectations"

When I am at home and reading, I have to think about what is being said to understand, so I read really slow.  This allows me to comprehend what is happening, yet it takes about half-an-hour to read 10 pages.  This is a problem along with crew and other homework from other classes.  I think that after reading I should discuss what happened during the chapters with my parents to better understand, instead of reading extremely slow.

                When I enter the classroom, I usually have about 4 minutes before class starts.  I like to use this time to discuss what happened in the chapters from the night before with my classmates.  This method helps me understand better.  I think that if you gave us at least 5 minutes to discuss what happened in the chapters every day, then everybody would understand it a little better.  Overall most activities in class help me understand better.

Great Expectations Comparison

The social status of a man is a major question of life in the book Great Expectations by Charles Dickens.  In the story Pip keeps worrying about becoming common.  After his dreaded nightmare came alive he received money from someone and was set out to London. On his quest to become uncommon, intelligent, and rich, he runs into a few people who are common and remind him of how he used to be.  A book in relation to trying to rise to the top and is similar the concept of being uncommon is Rocket Boys.  In this story a boy's father has him set out for coal mining but he wished for something else, to work the latest rocket models as a job.  So he gathers a bunch of friends to help build rockets and soon get them to fly.  In this magnificent non-fiction story the boy slowly raises to the top, becoming uncommon.

1800's inconveniences and invention

            In the 1800's, machines were just beginning.  Very few familys had the essentials needed for daily life, such as clothing, food, and money.  Most familys ran a farm and were barely able to provide food for themselves.  Each member of the family, if old enough, would work extremely long and hard everyday.  One of the most important things that people didn't have then that we have now was Lightbulbs.  Lightbulbs are crucial in the daily life of an average man.  They are used for lighting the house, when there is no daylight.  And for better seeing in certain areas of a building, where daylight can't reach.  Also elctricity was hard to comeby and most people did things by hand or by human force powered machines.

            If I were to create a new machine in that time, I would create a mobile electricity creator.  It would be named the "Wabbajack".  The Wabbajack's total purpose in life would be able to create electricity that could fuel a machine.  It would be the combination of handcranking, a moving magnet and copper wire surrounding it.  Each machine would be given a metal socket which you could plug the Wabbajack into.  Through this socket electricity from Wabbajack would fuel the machine and make it perform its task.  Simple and possible, since the creation of magnets from metals in the 1600's and their association with electricity in 1800's and the discovery of copper wire in 1877.
